Job description

One of Equinox Gold’s cornerstone Canadian assets, the Valentine Gold Mine (VGM) is a new, world-class, long-life gold mine located in the central region of Newfoundland and Labrador. The mine achieved first gold in September 2025 and commercial production in November 2025 and, when operating at full capacity, will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada and a significant economic driver and employer in the province. VGM currently has an estimated mine life of more than 14 years, with significant exploration potential. Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Contracts Specialist to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Procurement and Contracts Superintendent, the Contracts Specialist is responsible for the coordination, development, and issuance of all contract activies.

This position works Monday – Friday from the Grand Falls-Windsor office with ad-hoc travel to the mining operations.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote a respectful and healthy work environment at all times.
  • Be a courageous health, safety, and environment leader, adhere to and promote health, safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures.
  • Provide coordination, development, and issuance of RFPs for services and materials:
  • Prepare bid packages and RFP documents
  • Obtains competitive pricing information from vendors and suppliers, through the RFP process.
  • Coordinate proponent clarification communications
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, warranties, and service levels
  • Coordinate and host bidders' meetings, when necessary.
  • Identify and mitigate contractual risks during negotiations
  • Generate reports, including commercial evaluations, budget reports, etc.
  • Ensure documentation is properly maintained and filed.
  • Prepare and manage Request for Proposal documentation, Purchase Orders and Contracts in accordance with company policies and procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work with suppliers to reduce costs by identifying opportunities and process improvements.
  • Maintain strong communications with end users/requestors to ensure needs are being met in a timely manner.
  • Contribute actively to managing vendor selection, vendor performance, and continuous improvement of both the contractual relationship and departmental processes.
  • Manage contract renewals, extensions, and terminations.
  • Resolve contract disputes and manage claims when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Required

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a technical discipline or bachelor's degree in business or closely related field.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in a Contracts role in Mining or similar industrial environment.
  • Experience in delivering change management with experience in leading and engaging employees/contractors.
  • Experience in contract management, including monitoring key performance indicators, reporting, and RFP processes.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in managing service, commodity, and mining contracts.
  • Experience with Document Control systems.
  • Experience with contract law and able to draft and amend contract clauses confidently and appropriately.
  • Experience with ERP systems and experience with SAP is considered an asset.

Skills And Knowledge

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and excellent customer focus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • Results-oriented with an extremely high work ethic, excellent planning and scheduling skills, stringent quality standards, and a can-do attitude.
  • Previous management of multiple contractors simultaneously as part of the project and operations team.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
