Role Summary
The Manager - Instructional Design will lead and mentor a team of Instructional Designers, overseeing the design, development, and delivery of high-quality, engaging, and effective learning solutions. This role will ensure that instructional design projects align with strategic organizational objectives, adult learning principles, and accessibility standards. The Manager - Instructional Design will play a key role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional growth within the instructional design team, while also maintaining hands-on involvement in complex design projects.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Instructional Designers and learning admins, including performance reviews, coaching, and professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and best practices.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to discuss progress, challenges, and career growth.
- Onboard new Instructional Designers, providing guidance and ensuring a smooth integration into the team and established processes.
- Provide strategic oversight and guidance on instructional design projects, ensuring alignment with L&D objectives and overall business goals.
- In coordination with the Learning Experience Design team, review and approve instructional design documents, storyboards, scripts, and media specifications developed by the team, ensuring adherence to quality, brand standards, and design frameworks.
- Oversee the application of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and learning technologies across all learning solutions.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of instructional design methodologies, standards, and best practices within the L&D function.
- Collaborate with the L&D Leadership and Learning Consultants.
- Act as a primary point of contact for stakeholders (as required) on instructional design initiatives, managing expectations, communicating progress, and navigating complex project dynamics.
- Ensure all learning solutions adhere to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and internal quality guidelines.
- Contributes to the design and development of complex or strategic learning content, activities, assessments, and evaluations across various modalities (e-learning, VILT, blended, microlearning, ILT).
- Maintain proficiency with industry-standard e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise 360) and multimedia development tools.
- Stay informed about current trends, research, and emerging technologies in instructional design, adult learning, and learning technologies, including AI tools for content generation and personalization.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance Specialists to ensure the highest standards of quality across all instructional materials.
- Analyze learning data and feedback to identify areas for improvement in design and content effectiveness, informing future design decisions.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the instructional design workflow.
- Other duties as assigned or requested.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
- 9 - 12 years of progressive experience in instructional design and curriculum development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering successful learning solutions – digital and blended.
- 2+ years of experience in leadership, mentoring, or supervisory role within an L&D team.
- Strong understanding of adult learning theories and instructional design methodologies.
- Proficient with industry-standard e-learning authoring tools like Articulate Rise 360, Storyline 360.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to clearly explain instructional concepts and provide constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, balance priorities, and deliver within timelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively lead a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt to evolving design challenges.
- Familiarity with AI tools for content generation, personalization, or learning analytics.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Organizational Leadership).
- Experience in the healthcare industry.
- Hands-on experience with any one of the AI-based eLearning authoring tools.
- Demonstrated experience working with western companies/organizations and communicating complex ideas with US team members.
- Experience mentoring or leading a team of instructional designers and/or developers.
- Exposure to data-driven learning evaluation and analytics.
