Motive is hiring a Cinematic Animator for our New Grad Academy to join our team of passionate creators. You will report to the Animator Director and learn the basics of our Scripted Event, Conversations and Cinematics system pipelines. You'll work alongside experienced animators, gaining hands-on experience in clip processing and animation refinement. This role is designed to help you grow your skills, offering mentorship and guidance as you collaborate with narrative and design teams. You'll learn industry-standard techniques, contribute to creative discussions, and explore character movements and expressions. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your animation abilities and build a strong foundation for your future career in a supportive and dynamic studio environment.

Responsibilities

In the Cinematic Animator New Grad Academy, you'll work closely with animators, narrative and cinematic designers, and with technical animators to gain insights into conversation workflows and cinematic pipelines. Your role involves supporting the team by editing animation clips and helping develop and refine animations for scripted events, conversations and cinematics. You'll participate in team meetings to grasp project goals and artistic direction while also having the chance to implement feedback from the animation director to enhance animation quality. This position also offers the opportunity to learn and apply industry-standard animation software and techniques.

  • Polish cinematic animation content (scripted events, conversations, and story-driven scenes) under the guidance of the Animation Lead.
  • Export and integrate animation content into Unreal Engine, ensuring assets and scenes are correctly implemented.
  • Test and troubleshoot cinematic content in-engine, verifying timing, continuity, performance, and presentation quality.
  • Iterate on feedback from the Animation Director and broader team, making updates efficiently and accurately.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., cinematics, tech animation, tools/pipeline, design) to support smooth scene implementation and iteration

Required Skills Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Maya and/or MotionBuilder, and Unreal Engine (or equivalent DCC/tools and game engine experience) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of animation principles (timing, weight, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion for storytelling and video games.

Nice to Have (Optional)

  • Basic understanding of cinematic workflow (scene assembly, continuity, staging, timing, camera/character interplay).
  • Familiarity with animation export pipelines (FBX, retargeting, versioning, naming conventions).
  • Experience testing content in-engine and documenting issues clearly.
