As an experienced Freelance/ Contractor Data Scientist with a strong background in the education sector, your role will involve collaborating effectively with software engineering teams to translate business needs into data-driven insights and contribute to building scalable, intelligent systems. Here are the key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain well-structured data pipelines using modern tools and frameworks.
  • Develop, test, and deploy data models, predictive analytics, and statistical analyses related to education operations (e.g., student performance, enrollment, operational efficiency).
  • Analyze large datasets and provide actionable insights to guide educational initiatives and business decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to integrate models into applications, dashboards, and automated workflows.
  • Work with stakeholders to define project requirements, KPIs, success metrics, and deliverables.
  • Ensure model accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with privacy standards (FERPA, etc.).
  • Present findings in clear, concise formats suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.

To qualify for this role, you should have:

  • Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistics, and predictive modeling.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, with at least 1 year supporting education-related projects or institutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.) or R.
  • Hands-on software engineering experience (e.g., version control, APIs, basic DevOps, CI/CD familiarity).
  • Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with software engineers and product teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex findings into clear insights.

Additionally, preferred skills include:

  • Experience with education data systems (SIS, LMS, ERP for education).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Knowledge of MLOps tools and workflow automation.
  • Background in data visualization using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
