Echodyne is seeking a Quality Technician - Incoming Inspection (Day Shift) to join our fast-growing team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Quality Technician II/III - Incoming Inspection is based at Echodyne's Woodinville facility and is responsible for the inspection and acceptance of supplier-provided printed circuit boards (PCBs), printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), electronic components, cable assemblies, mechanical components, fabricated parts, and electromechanical assemblies. The primary focus of the role is PCBA workmanship, configuration, traceability, and supplier documentation verification.

This position serves as a critical incoming quality control point by preventing nonconforming material from entering inventory or production. The Quality Technician II/III independently applies engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, purchase requirements, established sampling plans, applicable IPC criteria, and Echodyne's AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) to make consistent accept, reject, and hold decisions.

This role supports complex inspections and supplier quality issues, provides clear objective evidence for nonconformances, helps improve incoming inspection methods and standard work, and provides technical guidance to less experienced inspectors. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Receiving, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform incoming inspection of bare PCBs, PCBAs, electronic components, cable assemblies, mechanical components, fabricated parts, and electromechanical assemblies against approved drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, and inspection plans.
  • Inspect PCBA workmanship to the applicable product acceptance class, including solder joints, component presence and placement, orientation and polarity, lead condition, board condition, cleanliness, markings, hardware, conformal coating, and approved rework or repair when applicable.
  • Inspect bare PCBs for fabrication, dimensional, marking, cleanliness, and workmanship defects using applicable drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform routine mechanical inspection using GD&T concepts, drawing dimensions, tolerances, datums, and commonly used feature control frames; partner with Quality or Engineering when advanced interpretation is required.
  • Use mechanical and optical inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height and depth gauges, indicators, surface plates, pin, plug, thread, and ring gauges, optical comparators, digital microscopes, and OGP or other vision measurement systems.
  • Verify supplier documentation and product configuration, including part number and revision, bill of material alignment, approved manufacturer or supplier, serial, lot, and date codes, quantity, certifications of conformance, material and special-process certifications, test reports, first article records, and traceability.
  • Verify incoming packaging, labeling, shelf-life, ESD, moisture-sensitive device (MSD), foreign object debris (FOD), and handling requirements before material acceptance.
  • Execute digital inspection plans, sampling requirements, and receiving workflows; maintain complete, accurate, and traceable inspection records in applicable quality, ERP, MES, or PLM systems.
  • Identify, document, segregate, and control nonconforming material; initiate or support NCR, MRB, containment, supplier corrective action, root cause, and corrective action activities.
  • Communicate supplier quality concerns and inspection risks promptly, providing clear defect descriptions, photographs, measurement results, and other objective evidence.
  • Ensure inspection tools and equipment are used within calibration requirements and support evaluation of inspection methods, fixtures, and measurement capability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced technicians on PCBA, documentation, mechanical inspection, and nonconformance practices.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of relevant quality inspection experience in aerospace, defense, electronics manufacturing, an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) environment, or a similar high-technology industry.
  • Demonstrated experience performing incoming or receiving inspection and making independent material acceptance decisions.
  • Extensive hands-on experience inspecting PCBs and PCBAs and identifying common soldering, component, board, cleanliness, coating, rework, and handling defects.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 or equivalent electronic assembly acceptance criteria and the ability to apply the product-defined acceptance class consistently.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material, specifications, purchase requirements, work instructions, revision documentation, and supplier quality records.
  • Basic working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), including datums, dimensions and tolerances, and common symbols used for routine inspection characteristics.
  • Hands-on proficiency with common mechanical and optical inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, digital microscopes, and vision measurement equipment.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 or an equivalent quality management system, including material identification, traceability, calibration, document control, and nonconforming material requirements.
  • Experience documenting and supporting NCR and MRB activities and communicating issues with suppliers, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality.
  • Understanding of ESD, MSD, FOD, component handling, shelf-life, packaging, and material traceability controls for electronic products.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience entering inspection results in ERP, MES, PLM, or digital quality systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide clear, objective inspection evidence.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, prioritize changing incoming inspection demands, make sound technical decisions, and mentor less experienced technicians.

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
(Looking for one or more as a complement to the core skills)

  • One or more of the following would complement the core qualifications:
  •  Current IPC-A-610 certification; IPC-A-600, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620

  • Experience inspecting high-reliability or IPC Class 3 electronic assemblies.
  • Experience with OGP SmartScope or other multisensor or vision measurement systems; programming experience is a plus.
  • Experience reviewing AS9102 first article inspection reports, certificates of conformance, material certifications, and special-process documentation.
  • Experience with cable, machined-part, sheet-metal, molded-part, cosmetic, and electromechanical incoming inspection.
  • Experience supporting supplier quality, supplier corrective action, source inspection, defect trending, or supplier scorecard activities.
