Senior Platform Engineer – CI/CD Infrastructure

About the Team

The Developer Platform, Productivity & Experience Engineering team designs, builds, and operates eBay’s Internal Developer Platform (IDP), powering software delivery across the company.

Our platforms enable thousands of engineers to build, test, and release software reliably at scale. Core areas include Continuous Delivery, Testing platforms, Developer Productivity systems, and Engineering Intelligence.

About the Role

We are hiring Senior Platform Engineers to strengthen and scale eBay’s CI/CD infrastructure, including Jenkins, Tekton, plugin ecosystems, telemetry, monitoring, dashboards, and underlying storage systems across development and production environments.

This role will establish strong regional engineering ownership, improve reliability, and drive modernization across our CI/CD, compute, and storage infrastructure.

You will design, build, and operate resilient CI/CD systems and distributed services that power thousands of pipelines daily.

What You’ll Do

• Build, operate, and scale CI/CD infrastructure (Jenkins, Tekton)
• Design and manage plugin infrastructure and lifecycle processes
• Develop microservices (Java / Spring Boot) for CI/CD orchestration and platform capabilities
• Architect and enhance distributed systems to improve pipeline scalability and reliability
• Design and manage file systems and storage infrastructure supporting build artifacts, caching, logs, and pipeline data
• Implement telemetry, monitoring, and observability across CI/CD and storage systems
• Build dashboards and operational insights for pipeline health and performance
• Improve pipeline efficiency and reduce systemic failure rates
• Drive automation, modernization, and standardization across environments
• Collaborate with global teams to ensure high availability and operational excellence

What You’ll Bring

• Strong experience operating Jenkins at scale (masters, agents, plugins, upgrades, performance tuning)
• Hands-on experience with Tekton or cloud-native pipeline orchestration
• Proven experience developing microservices using Java / Spring Boot
• Strong background in distributed systems design and distributed computing
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure
• Solid understanding of file systems, storage architectures, artifact storage, and performance optimization
• Strong automation and scripting skills (Python preferred)
• Experience building telemetry, monitoring, and observability systems
• Strong debugging, performance tuning, and reliability engineering skills
• High ownership mindset with the ability to operate critical production systems

Role Clarification

This is a hands-on, coding-focused Platform Engineering role centered on designing, building, and operating CI/CD, distributed systems, and storage infrastructure at scale.

It is not a DevOps-only, support-only, or operations-only role. Engineers on this team own systems end-to-end — architecture, development, automation, and reliability.
