Client Technology - Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and pragmatic Data Engineer (Applications Development Sr Programmer Analyst - C12) to design, develop, and deploy advanced data solutions. This multifaceted role involves creating smart data solutions by understanding goals and executing tasks with minimal human intervention. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of database design, application data flows, database development and highly performant processing solutions. This hybrid position emphasizes technical leadership, focusing on rapid prototyping, iterative improvement, and delivering measurable business value by translating research ideas into robust, scalable production systems.

Responsibilities

• Data Development: Design, implement, and deploy highly scalable data solutions, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security.
• Task Automation & Workflow Optimization: Develop data flows that can automate complex tasks, optimize workflows, and solve real-world problems across various domains.
• Rapid Delivery: MVP first approach, iterative improvement approach with a focus on "time to value" (quick iterations, hypothesis testing, A/B experiments).
• Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data domain, actively participating in the development of proofs of concept (POCs) and exploring new methodologies.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate with broader products and services.
• Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation for design, implementation, and operational procedures.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on coding, with a track record of delivering quality solutions on time.
• Experience in the finance industry is a plus.
• Strong database development skills with SQL, Stored Procedures and Data Modeling.
• Strong hands-on experience with developing data solutions with PySpark and Python.
• Create ELT data pipelines, optimize Spark clusters on containerized environments.
• Good knowledge of S3 bucket and/or NAS storage systems.
• Software Engineering: Experience with software development best practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing, and code reviews. Understanding of agile methodologies, application resiliency, and security. Proven experience in system design, application development, and operational stability.
• Application and Data Architecture: Experience with application and data architecture patterns and designs. Thorough understanding of data flows from producer to consumer systems.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative approach to complex challenges.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• ETL Tools: Development experience with one or more ETL tools such as IBM DataStage, Talend, Apache Airflow, SSIS, etc.,
• BI Tools: Experience with BI tools like Tableau, etc.,
• Containerization: Experience with OpenShift, Docker and Kubernetes.
• AI/ML: Experience with ML frameworks, LLMs, etc.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
