DSW Structural Engineering Ltd. specializes in emergency structural evaluations, building restoration, and new construction design. Our work ranges from fire- and impact-damaged buildings to new residential and light commercial projects.

We work closely with restoration contractors, insurance companies, and emergency services across BC, Yukon, and Alberta. Our projects are fast-paced, practical, and highly varied — often requiring quick thinking and sound engineering judgment.

The Role

We’re looking for a Structural Engineer who can take ownership of projects — from initial assessment through to design, coordination, and construction support.

This role is best suited to someone with solid experience who is comfortable making decisions, communicating directly with clients and contractors, and producing clear, buildable designs. A strong EIT with the right mindset will also be considered.

What You’ll Do

• Assess damaged structures (fire, impact, etc.) and determine safe, practical repair strategies
• Design structural repairs and new construction systems (primarily wood-frame and light commercial)
• Perform structural analysis and prepare supporting calculations
• Communicate design intent clearly to the drafting team and review/mark up drawings
• Coordinate directly with contractors, consultants, and insurance representatives
• Conduct site reviews and respond to construction issues in real time
• Apply sound judgment to solve practical, often time-sensitive problems

What We’re Looking For

• P.Eng. in British Columbia, or a strong EIT working toward designation
• 4+ years of relevant experience (flexible for the right candidate)
• Valid drivers licence and vehicle
• Solid understanding of structural design, particularly wood-frame construction
• Experience with structural analysis/design tools (WoodWorks, SAP2000, Enercalc, etc.)
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
• Strong communication skills — both technical and practical
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, field-involved environment
