Contract

In-Office | Berkeley Heights, NJ, United States

About the Role

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical systems that power high-volume transactional environments—particularly in banking and payment platforms where zero data loss is essential. The ideal candidate will work across development, infrastructure, and security teams to build resilient, automated, and data-driven operations supporting modern enterprise services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement solutions that improve application reliability, resilience, scalability, and performance.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, observability, and telemetry systems to enable proactive detection and rapid response to incidents.
  • Lead incident management, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and drive action-oriented post-mortem improvements.
  • Automate operational workflows through scripting, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and configuration management tools.
  • Analyze capacity, performance, and usage to forecast demand and optimize cloud resource utilization and costs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams to embed operability, resilience, and security into design.
  • Support stable deployments through CI/CD pipelines, release governance, and structured change management.
  • Maintain detailed runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational documentation to streamline production support.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads (EKS, AKS, GKE), including scaling, patching, and networking.
  • Strong background in at least one major public cloud platform — AWS, Azure, or GCP (compute, networking, storage, IAM, cost optimization).
  • Proficiency with observability and APM tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ExtraHop.
  • Implemented security and compliance controls (PCI DSS, SOC 2) with experience in secrets management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Solid experience in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Expertise designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
  • Scripting and automation experience with Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
  • Proven track record supporting banking or payment systems with high-volume transactions and zero data loss (insurance project experience not preferred).

Good to Have

  • Certifications such as AWS SysOps Administrator, AWS DevOps Engineer, Google Cloud DevOps Engineer, or CKA.
  • Exposure to IBM iSeries, Unisys, or other premier enterprise systems.
  • Strong background in database operations and performance tuning (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Prior experience in major incident management, stakeholder communication, and cross-team coordination.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and ServiceNow (change, problem, and configuration management).
