Fire Cadet Training in DC

Kickstart your firefighting career with the DC Fire and EMS Department as a Fire Cadet. This temporary position offers training in firefighting and emergency medical services for DC residents aged 18-21.

The Fire Cadet will engage in comprehensive firefighter and EMT training at the DC Fire and EMS Training Academy over one year. Responsibilities include assisting at special events focused on fire prevention and safety while enhancing skills in life and property protection. This role is an excellent way to prepare for a future in firefighting and emergency care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete firefighter and EMT training within one year

Requirements

• DC Resident aged 18-21 by April 30, 2026
• Valid driver’s license/provisional license/learner’s permit
• High school diploma or GED
• Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Pass medical examination and drug screening
