Role Summary:

The Investment Accountant will be responsible for the fund and investment accounting, including the full accounting cycle and preparation of the financial statements and MRFP of the CST Plans. This role also supports the maintenance of the subscriber capital ledger account balances for accuracy and completeness and for the analysis of the financial information of the Plans.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist in the development, maintenance and implementation of financial and operational standards, accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and review monthly internal financial statements.
  • Lead month-end, semi-annual and year-end close process.
  • Oversee all transactions related to general ledger for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with year-end financial statement audit with external auditors.
  • Prepare monthly allocation of income for purposes of monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations and ensure performed on timely basis and all reconciling items are resolved.
  • Ensure that records are maintained in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvement projects and work on continuous improvement initiatives with Manager, Investment Finance.
  • Prepare all investment fund financial and tax information for regulatory filings on a timely basis.
  • Prepare accounting memos.
  • Assist with determination the Education Assistant Payments (EAP) values and support the payment process with the Customer Experience Department.
  • Support ongoing system maintenance, upgrade and enhancements for the financial systems (general ledger and support systems) and related reporting.

What you bring:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Business/Accounting/Finance and CPA designation.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Investment Fund Accounting or related experience.
  • Investment fund industry experience is an asset.
  • Experience with Oracle financials or other accounting software an asset.
  • Excellent technical competency and advanced accounting skills, financial controls, and reconciliation skills.
  • Knowledge of investment products and investment fund accounting.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Look-ups and Modelling.
  • Highly analytical, detailed oriented, and able to analyze large complex data sets.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and likes autonomy but keeps everyone in the loop.
  • Ability to solve problems and willing to make improvements to processes, spreadsheets, controls and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.
  • Proactive, takes initiative, and great ability to manage multiple priorities.

Salary Range

$70,000 to $83,000 CAD/Annually

Salaries will vary based on factors such as market conditions, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role. Please note this represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total rewards program (i.e. annual bonus).
