Senior UX Designer (with Pharma/Life Sciences experience!)

Location: Waltham, MA (West End neighborhood - not easily T accessible)

On-Site Requirement: Hybrid - 3 days per week

Duration & Hours: 6 months, 40 hours per week

Rate Range: $50-$60 per hour (W2)

Job Description

Our client, a digital engineering firm, is seeking a Senior UX Designer with to partner with their client based in Waltham, MA. This will be a long-term, hybrid Senior UX Designer role supporting a leading life sciences client in designing a next-generation internal portal for laboratory automation and drug discovery workflows. The role is 40 hours per week, onsite at least 3 days per week in Waltham, MA, and begins as a 6-month freelance contract with potential extension.

You will lead user research, shape the information architecture and interaction design, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including scientific staff, content leads, creatives, and a Business Analyst, to drive end-to-end UX for a complex scientific internal system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing with scientific staff and stakeholders.
  • Analyze data and develop mental models, customer journey maps, and service blueprints to inform design.
  • Create site maps, flows, navigation strategies, wireframes, and prototypes for the internal portal.
  • Present research findings, insights, and design recommendations to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with content and creative leads on hierarchy, taxonomy, and interaction design.
  • Partner closely with the Business Analyst and cross-functional teams throughout the design and development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience using UX tools such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, or Adobe XD.
  • Experience in pharma, life sciences, or lab automation is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of design thinking, interaction design, usability standards, and responsive design.
  • Proven ability to lead research and testing activities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Note: This is a true blue UX Designer/Researcher - there will not be any UI as part of this role.

In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
