As a Medical Coder/Auditor specializing in surgery or cardiology/cardiovascular procedures, your role will involve staying up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining documentation of audit findings, reports, and recommendations. Collaborating with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies and implement corrective actions will be a key aspect of your job. Additionally, you will review medical records, including electronic health records (EHRs), to identify areas for improvement. Conducting quality audits on surgical procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations will also be part of your responsibilities.
Your key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Staying up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices
- Developing and maintaining documentation of audit findings, reports, and recommendations
- Collaborating with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies and implement corrective actions
- Reviewing medical records, including electronic health records (EHRs), to identify areas for improvement
- Conducting quality audits on surgical procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
The qualifications required for this position include:
- 3-8 years of experience as a coder/auditor specializing in surgery or cardiology/cardiovascular procedures
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS Level II codes; certification preferred (e.g., CRC)
- Expertise in Cardiovascular Coding (CVT) covering surgical procedures of the heart, valves, and great vessels (CPT hidden_mobile)
- Mastery of the entire surgery section of CPT, covering Integumentary (1), Musculoskeletal (2), Respiratory/Cardio (3), Digestive (4), Urinary/Male/Female (5), and Endocrine/Nervous (6) systems
- Specific ability to audit complex catheterization and vascular procedures often bundled with CV surgery in Cath Lab & Interventional Radiology (IR)
- Deep understanding of "with" vs. "without" heart-lung machine documentation requirements for paired cardiac codes in Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) Logic
- Experience working with EHR systems such as Epic Systems or similar platforms
