The Opportunity

The Admissions Assistant will join the Office of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Student and Academic Services as a key member of the team, providing detail-oriented and service-focused support for DVM student admissions and recruitment activities. This position provides critical support to the Director of Admissions and plays an integral role in the successful execution of DVM student admissions and recruitment activities.

Working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, the Admissions Assistant will manage admissions systems and processes, support prospective student engagement, coordinate application activities, and contribute to recruitment initiatives that advance the college’s enrollment goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage recruitment database systems, including data entry, tracking, report creation, and analysis to support admissions strategy and institutional research efforts.

  • Respond to prospective student inquiries by email and phone, providing accurate and timely guidance on application requirements, admissions policies, and the DVM program.

  • Coordinate the annual DVM admissions process, supporting more than 1,800 applications through application tracking, data management, applicant communications, technical support, and decision notifications.

  • Serve as a liaison with the Veterinary Medicine IT team to support admissions systems and ensure effective application processing.

  • Manage admissions communications, including email distributions, newsletters, mass communications, and website updates.

  • Support admissions committee meetings, recruitment events, and other outreach activities through logistical planning, scheduling, and event coordination.

  • Assist with office operations, including publication orders, workflow coordination for part-time employees and support staff, and other administrative responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with Enrollment Division partners and representatives across Cornell colleges, schools, and units to support university-wide enrollment goals.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

What We Need

We are seeking a collaborative team member who is customer service-oriented, organized, and comfortable leveraging technology to support students, colleagues, and stakeholders. Additionally, you will have:

  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent with at least two to four years of related experience.   Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must have knowledge and experience in database management and reporting. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a strong team member who clearly, openly, and frequently communicates with others;

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;

  • Experience interacting with varied clientele in a timely, courteous and professional manner at all times, as well as the ability and willingness to work in a team-based environment;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral);

  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation;

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing;

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in an academic setting desired. Knowledge of web design and database programming preferred. Previous experience using admissions CRM technologies especially Peoplesoft system is a plus
