Key Responsibilities:
Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes to medical diagnoses, procedures, and services based on clinical documentation.
Review and analyze patient medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies, ensuring optimal reimbursement.
Conduct regular audits of coded data to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for process improvement.
Stay updated on changes in coding standards, including CMS, AMA, and AHIMA guidelines, and implement updates as required.
Prepare and submit coded data for billing purposes, ensuring timely and accurate claims processing.
Assist in the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and PHIPA regulations in all aspects of the role.
Technical Requirements:
Active USRN (Registered Nurse) license with clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent from a recognized organization (e.g., AAPC, AHIMA).
Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems with a minimum of 2 years of medical coding experience.
Strong understanding of US healthcare reimbursement systems, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation.
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, 3M).
