OSITION SUMMARY

The Retail Pharmacy at CHEO will operate from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm weekends and statutory holidays.  

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the Retail Designated Pharmacy Manager’s supervision the Pharmacy Technician:

  • Performs all the tasks defined in the NAPRA Standards Practice for Pharmacy Technician practice from the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).

  • Keep up to date and follows workflow processes of the pharmacy department and the Hospital based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements

  • Performs order entry and maintains accurate computerized patient profiles

  • Maintains competency on all equipment and automation

  • Dispenses outpatient prescriptions

  • Prepares non-sterile compounding

  • Distributes and maintains inventory of all pharmaceuticals.

  • Maintains stock of over the counter pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and other supplies within the pharmacy work areas

  • Keeps work areas clean, organized, and functional

  • Maintains shelf facing and cleans shelves storing medication

  • Maintains equipment and automation in good working condition, problem solves as appropriate and reports issues to the Retail Designated Pharmacy Manager

  • Orders pharmaceutical supplies and required medications and ensures appropriate stock levels at all times

  • Reports product defects, i.e. labeling issues, product discoloration or deterioration, precipitate, contamination, etc. to Retail Designated Pharmacy Manager

  • Reports medication errors to Retail Designated Pharmacy Manager

  • Maintains records of pharmacy related activities.

  • Participates in the pharmacy technician work rotation fulfilling the responsibilities and tasks of each assigned area including weekend and evening shifts

  • Participates in staff and pharmacy technician meetings, departmental planning and communication activities, and special project assignments as required

  • Participates in the training and orientation of new personnel in technical aspects of the Retail Pharmacy

  • Participates in retail pharmacy quality assurance activities

  • Works cooperatively with all colleagues, promoting and maintaining harmonious inter and intra departmental relationships

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)

  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Essential)

  • Maintains competency on all equipment and automation (Essential)

  • Maintains non-sterile certifications yearly (Essential)

  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience (Preferred)

  • Sterile compounding experience (Preferred)

  • Non-sterile compounding experience (Preferred)

  • Bilingual (English/French) (Preferred)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.  
 

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
