Job Description
Summary
The Security Police Officer – EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) provides first response to emergencies; enforcing federal law and assimilated state law; conducting mobile patrols, inspections and searches; conducting traffic enforcement and traffic investigations; initiating an arrest and transporting persons; perform protective service work such as guarding NASA owned or leased buildings and property; protecting NASA equipment and material; controlling access to NASA installations by employees, visitors, and residents; and other duties as assigned. This is an armed position.
Responsibilities
- Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned.
- Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders.
- Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel.
- Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions.
- Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment.
- Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or greater certification.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- Must complete the NASA Federal Arrest Authority Basic Course (academy) within first 90 days of employment
- First Aid/CPR Certified or BLS certified.
- Honorably discharged (If applicable).
- Must be able to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance.
- Preferred, 1 year military or law enforcement experience
- Preferred, possession of a diploma or certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency; or military services recognized basic law enforcement or physical security training academy.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard office and administrative practices and procedures including report preparation, data entry, filing methods, correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, modern office methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to provide varied technical and administrative assistance; use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines; organize, coordinate, and prioritize a variety of assignments with varying deadlines; work effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions; handle difficult, confidential, and sensitive assignments; organize and maintain a variety of confidential records, reports, and files.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

- The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
- During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
