Job description

We are looking for passionate, self-driven new graduates who are excited to begin their career in Quality Engineering, test automation, and digital transformation. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy breaking down problems, improving quality, learning new technologies, and building creative automation solutions.

The successful candidate will work with experienced QE engineers, developers, delivery leads, and business teams to support end-to-end testing across front-end, back-end, API, integration, and regression testing layers. The role will focus on building strong automation skills using Java and Selenium while also gaining exposure to modern quality engineering practices.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $50,000-$80,000. This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office at a minimum 2 days per week - subject to change at any time.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end testing activities across web applications, APIs, integrations, and business workflows.
  • Design, create, execute, and maintain test cases, test scripts, test data, and execution evidence.
  • Learn and contribute to test automation frameworks using Java, Selenium, and related automation tools.
  • Support functional, regression, smoke, integration, API, and user acceptance testing activities.
  • Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, screenshots, logs, and impact analysis.
  • Work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and QE leads to understand requirements and testing scope.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, demos, retrospectives, and defect triage meetings.
  • Support automation execution, failure analysis, script maintenance, and reporting.
  • Learn and apply quality engineering practices such as risk-based testing, shift-left testing, reusable automation, and continuous testing.
  • Explore opportunities to use AI, automation, reusable components, and accelerators to improve testing efficiency and quality.
  • Bring fresh thinking, creativity, curiosity, and ownership to improve testing practices and overall delivery quality.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

  • Recent graduate from Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related program.
  • Academic, internship, co-op, hackathon, personal project, or self-learning experience in software testing or automation.
  • Exposure to Java programming and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Exposure to Selenium WebDriver for web automation.
  • Basic understanding of test case design, defect lifecycle, regression testing, and Agile delivery.
  • Basic understanding of web applications, APIs, databases, and system integration concepts.
  • Familiarity with Git, IDEs, debugging, test execution, and reporting tools.
  • Interest in building automation frameworks and improving test coverage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated passion for technology through creative projects, automation ideas, AI experiments, hackathons, or self-learning.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable asking questions, seeking feedback, and taking ownership.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in financial services, digital banking, quality engineering, AI, automation, or enterprise application delivery would be an asset.
