About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist – Noninvasive Prenatal Testing to join our dynamic Testing team.
The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing routine testing, as well as other relevant lab duties. In this role, you will be responsible for accessioning, testing, interpreting and reporting all results, managing blood and blood component inventory and post‑production component processing, and preparing reagents and equipment for daily use. You will perform these duties in accordance with all Canadian Blood Services Operating Procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.
- Performs Real Time-PCR for Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), following workinstructions.
- Receives, inspects and stores and completes shipment acceptance of reagents and reagent kits according to working instructions and Manufacturer’s instructions.
- Performs and records all NIPT related quality control/assurance activities.
- Performs, verifies and documents routine maintenance and verification procedures on laboratory equipment in accordance with approved work instructions and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains technical competency and participates in continuous learning and quality improvement
- Maintains current knowledge of NIPT methodologies and techniques.
Desired education and skills
- Certified general Medical Laboratory Technologist with College of Medical Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- Minimum 6 months of previous laboratory experience in a clinical laboratory with experience in high complexity molecular testing.
- Must demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of molecular techniques, principles, procedures, and instrumentation.
- Must have attention to detail and the ability to perform detailed documentation in an accurate and legible manner.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential, including the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
