Position Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that CBN’s secure printed products and materials meet established quality standards and specifications. Working within a manufacturing environment, the incumbent performs a range of verification, durability, and quality tests using specialized laboratory equipment, while accurately documenting results and supporting data-driven quality decisions.
Through close collaboration with Production, Quality, and R&D, and Manufacturing teams, the QC Laboratory Technician helps safeguard product integrity, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and contributes to the consistent delivery of high‑quality, security‑sensitive products essential to CBN’s role in Canada’s critical infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure product quality and compliance by conducting quality control testing on incoming, in‑process, and finished materials to verify adherence to established specifications and quality standards using specialized laboratory equipment.
- Protect manufacturing outcomes and customer confidence by identifying, documenting, and escalating quality issues or non‑conformances, including placing materials on hold and supporting timely resolution of issues in accordance with quality procedures.
- Provide reliable quality data for decision‑making by accurately recording, analyzing, and reporting test results, including data entry, preparation of summaries, generation of statistical process control charts, and completion of shift and test reports.
- Support cross‑functional production and quality objectives by organizing and verifying quality data to ensure proper collection, traceability, and availability for Production, Quality, and R&D, and Manufacturing stakeholders.
- Maintain integrity of testing results by operating, maintaining, and supporting the calibration and certification of laboratory and manufacturing measurement equipment.
- Sustain a safe, efficient, and audit‑ready laboratory environment by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety through adherence to 5S principles and established safety practices.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance testing methods, data accuracy, laboratory efficiency, and overall quality performance.
- Comply with security, quality system, and regulatory requirements, including maintaining confidentiality and working rotating shifts as required to meet production demands.
Fundamental Requirements
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Able to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance
- Fluent in English (speak, read, write)
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position (stand/walk for prolonged periods)
- Able to work a variety of shifts (days, evenings, weekends)
- Ability to pass a colour-blindness test
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in laboratory technology, print technology, manufacturing, etc. or equivalent additional years of relevant professional experience
- Knowledge of the following:
- Measurement and accuracy fundamentals
- Sample handling and traceability
- Equipment calibration practices
- Statistical analysis concepts
- 5S principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science/industrial/manufacturing or related fields
- Knowledge of the following:
- Lean manufacturing principles and practices/processes
- Quality systems and compliance standards (ISO 9001, GMP, etc.)
- Defect handling and non-conformance practices
- 1+ year of experience in manufacturing or laboratory environment
