We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Research Services Manager to oversee and coordinate research operations across all offices. This role involves managing our research team, supporting firm leadership with budgeting and reporting, and providing strategic guidance on legal and non-legal research initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal research, vendor relations, training program development, and resource evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and non-legal research for attorneys, paralegals, and Business Professional departments including Business Development, People and Finance teams.
  • Advise attorneys and paralegals on complex legal research strategies, emerging AI research tools, and effective use of legal technology platforms.
  • Assist in evaluating and validating AI-generated research results and workflows to support accuracy and responsible use.
  • Design and deliver training programs for Summer Associates, new hires (including Fall Associates), and lateral attorneys.
  • Develop firm-wide campaigns to introduce new research tools, AI resources, and research services.
  • Work closely with IT and practice groups to provide training and guidance on legal research platforms and research best practices, including emerging AI initiatives related to research services.
  • Recommend new knowledge management and AI-enabled technologies to enhance research capabilities and attorney efficiency.
  • Manage research staff schedules and shared projects across U.S. and UK offices.
  • Conduct team performance reviews and support professional development initiatives, including evolving research and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Collaborate with director on budget planning, contract negotiations, and financial reporting.
  • Create and present reports on research resource usage/adoption trends.
  • Evaluate online and print resources for effectiveness and ROI.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, including training coordination, troubleshooting, and subscription management.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) required, with a passion for continuously learning and evolving in the field.
  • Extensive experience (6+ years) in legal research and library services, ideally within a law firm or corporate legal setting, with a track record of driving meaningful impact.
  • A collaborative and forward-thinking leader who brings strong project management skills and thrives on empowering others to succeed.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities, with a respectful and inclusive approach to working with various teams and stakeholders.
  • Deep familiarity with legal research platforms and library systems, paired with curiosity and insight to leverage tools in innovative ways.
  • The ability to connect and collaborate across departments and global offices, bringing a thoughtful, insightful, and team-oriented mindset.
