Position Description
Bridgenext is seeking a Senior Power BI Platform Engineer with strong Databricks and data engineering expertise to support enterprise analytics modernization. This is a hybrid BI + Data Engineering role focused on building a Power BI platform and reusable reporting framework (semantic models, standards, patterns, and performance guidance) that enables other Power BI developers to deliver consistent, scalable reporting.
This role is not intended for a reporting-only BI developer. The ideal candidate will demonstrate end-to-end ownership, strong technical judgment, and the ability to independently design, build, and optimize analytics solutions with a Databricks-based data platform (Delta Lake) as the primary backend, requiring close collaboration with data engineering teams and a deep understanding of Databricks data structures, performance, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop enterprise grade‑ Power BI reports and dashboards
- Build and optimize semantic models using DAX, Power Query, and tabular modeling concepts
- Implement DirectQuery, Composite Models, and Aggregations to handle large data volumes
- Optimize report performance and large dataset export capabilities
- Support migration from SSRS (Paginated Reports) and legacy BI solutions to Power BI
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to align data structures for analytics consumption
- Work closely with Databricks-based data platforms and Delta tables as primary data sources
- Collaborate with data engineering teams on data modeling, ETL pipelines, and analytics readiness
- Apply row‑level security (RLS) and governance best practices
- Act as a technical escalation point for Power BI performance and modeling issues
Workplace: This is a remote role requiring full-time Eastern timezone working hours and travel to Toronto office once per quarter. We have the ability to hire applicants based in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, or British Columbia
Must Have Skills:
- 5+ years of Business Intelligence experience
- Expert‑level Power BI development (DAX, Power Query)
- Strong experience with semantic modeling and analytical data design
- Proven ability to handle large datasets, refresh optimization, and performance tuning
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks (clusters, Delta Lake, Databricks SQL / Spark SQL)
- Exposure to data engineering concepts and ETL pipelines
- Strong understanding of analytical data modeling (facts, dimensions, grain)
- Experience supporting or leading BI platform migrations
- Strong stakeholder communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience migrating SSRS / Paginated Reports to Power BI
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric Semantic Models / Direct Lake
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for Power BI deployments
- Experience in regulated industries (insurance, banking, healthcare)
