Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to support the PAC-3 program in Huntsville, Alabama.

This position is a manufacturing engineering role with a strong emphasis on project execution, continuous improvement, operational efficiency, affordability, and cost reduction. The selected candidate will lead and support cross-functional projects that improve manufacturing performance, streamline production processes, reduce cycle time and cost, and enhance overall program execution for complex defense products.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and other Integrated Product Team (IPT) members to identify opportunities, develop improvement plans, implement sustainable solutions, and measure results.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support manufacturing-focused projects that improve operational efficiency, capacity, quality, affordability, and delivery performance for the PAC-3 program

  • Analyze manufacturing processes, production data, labor performance, material flow, tooling, and equipment utilization to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement projects to reduce cycle time, eliminate waste, improve first-pass yield, and increase manufacturing throughput

  • Apply Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies to address production and process challenges

  • Partner with Manufacturing Operations, Industrial Engineering, Quality, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program Management to develop integrated improvement solutions

  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and provide manufacturing input in support of program execution, production readiness, and affordability objectives

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing plans, work instructions, travelers, standard operating procedures, and other production documentation as needed

  • Assist with production readiness efforts, including equipment planning, shop layout, material flow, capacity assessments, and tooling requirements

  • Ensure manufacturing processes and documentation comply with applicable quality, safety, environmental, and program requirements

  • Track project execution, communicate progress to leadership and stakeholders, and document realized cost savings and operational benefits

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, supply chain, industrial engineering, production engineering, or a related aerospace/defense environment

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations, production processes, process improvement, or affordability initiatives

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing, quality, schedule, or cost challenges

  • Experience using data and metrics to identify improvement opportunities and support decision-making

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience supporting missile defense, aerospace, defense, or other complex regulated manufacturing environments

  • Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement, cost reduction, productivity, or operational excellence projects

  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, Kaizen, root cause corrective action, or similar improvement methodologies

  • Experience authoring or maintaining work instructions, manufacturing plans, travelers, and shop procedures

  • Experience with Boeing manufacturing systems, including MESci or similar electronic work instruction and production control systems

  • Strong project management, communication, stakeholder engagement, and organizational skills

  • Ability to influence across functions and lead projects from opportunity identification through implementation and sustainment
