Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Projects, the Director of Strategic Projects will lead the permitting and environmental activities of the United States projects and activities, and work towards and make best efforts to ensure the success in the following manner:

  • Provide project management services
  • Management of all aspects of the any assets as requested by the Company
  • Provide high level project functions and guidance including all environmental and permitting scopes and strategies
  • Ensure the risk management for the evolving company and associated projects is effective and well communicated
  • Manage the project viability metrics to meet expectations associated to any and all project developments throughout the engineering and study progression, preliminary (PEA), PreFeasibility (PFS), Feasibility (BFS), Front-End Eng Design (FEED) and eventual Detailed Engineering. This includes CAPEX, OPEX, schedule, contingency, risk, and associated study level tolerances
  • Support the company evolution and decision gate process by continually evaluating the status of project commercial model and residual risk. This will continue over the entire cycle of the company and project development
  • Provide direction on the required engineering and project definition to support the decision gate process

Required Qualifications & Experience 

  • 10–20+ years of project management experience in mining, heavy industrial, or major capital projects.
  • Proven experience in underground mine design and/or construction.
  • Experience working in brownfield projects and revamp/restart of existing facilities.
  • Experience directly managing engineering consultants.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the permitting requirements and environmental activities in California and/or Nevada.
  • Proven track record delivering construction of mines or large industrial facilities from early works through commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of mining infrastructure (process plant, underground/ open pit, utilities, roads, water systems, camp, power, etc.).
  • Expertise in project controls (cost, schedule, risk) and contract management.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams and contractors in remote or complex environments.
  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred; engineering degree strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% (or more) to project sites and other locations for design and permitting tasks. The frequency and duration of travel will be variable and is driven by the needs of the Project.
