BioTalent Search®Job Description
As a Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist at the rapidly growing biotech company based in Bengaluru, your role will involve primarily focusing on the design, execution, and delivery of genetic engineering projects. This includes tasks such as cloning, heterologous expression, and functional evaluation of recombinant proteins in various microbial and fungal host systems. You will lead and execute R&D programs in synthetic biology, covering gene design, codon optimization, vector construction, strain development, and expression optimization for enzymes and pathways relevant to the industry.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a team of 2 to 3 research associates for single or multiple projects
- Performing full-time, hands-on bench work with end-to-end ownership of cloning, transformation, expression, screening, and validation experiments
- Demonstrating expertise in molecular biology and bioanalytical techniques such as end-point PCR, RT-PCR/qPCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and related analytical tools
- Engaging in metabolic and pathway engineering tasks, including gene overexpression, promoter engineering, gene knock-out/knock-down strategies, stable genomic integration, and controlled upregulation/downregulation of gene expression
- Utilizing advanced DNA assembly and genome editing techniques like Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate cloning, and CRISPRCas9based genome engineering
- Executing core molecular biology workflows such as PCR amplification, plasmid construction, restriction analysis, microbial cultivation, strain maintenance, and expression screening
- Handling data analysis, interpretation, documentation, and reporting of experimental results, along with generating technical reports, SOPs, protocols, and presentations meeting internal quality and compliance standards
- Supporting strain performance evaluation through protein expression analysis, functional assays, and correlation of genotype with phenotype
- Managing project documentation, ensuring regulatory and data integrity compliance, and training junior team members on SOPs, experimental workflows, analytical methods, and laboratory documentation practices
- Demonstrating strong analytical, troubleshooting, and experimental reasoning skills to independently plan experiments, interpret results, and propose data-driven next steps
- Collaborating in multidisciplinary R&D teams to support synthetic biology, enzyme engineering, and process development objectives
For this role, you should possess:
- Educational background: M.Sc. with 610 years of experience or Ph.D. with 25 years of experience in Molecular Biology/Strain Engineering
- Hands-on expertise in molecular biology and bioanalytical techniques
- Experience in metabolic and pathway engineering
- Strong working knowledge of advanced DNA assembly and genome editing techniques
