Job description

Bevi is on a mission to transform how beverages are delivered and consumed. Our connected beverage platform eliminates the need for single-use bottles and cans, making it easy, fun, and sustainable to stay hydrated. As the category leader in IoT-enabled beverage technology, we're building a future where Bevi machines are everywhere people live, work, and connect. We've raised over $160M in venture capital, serve thousands of customers across the US, Canada, UK and Ireland, and we've been rapidly growing year over year, saving over 1 billion bottles from waste. In addition to driving hypergrowth with our current product line, Bevi is heavily investing in new product development.

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Food Scientist to join our Beverage team. In this role, you will support critical beverage initiatives and assist in the development of new products. Reporting to the Manager, Beverage R&D, you will help convert market strategies into finished concentrates used in our high-tech dispensers. From benchtop prototyping to refining formulas based on consumer feedback, you will play a hands-on role in unbottling the future.

Your Day to Day

  • Execute Formulations: Support the development of new beverage formulations by performing benchtop experiments based on concepts provided by senior team members.
  • Prototyping: Create small-batch prototype runs in-house, ensuring accuracy in measurements and consistency in flavor profiles.
  • Lab Management: Own the day-to-day operations of the beverage lab, including equipment maintenance, calibration, sanitation, and maintaining a meticulous inventory of ingredients and materials.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed and organized records of formula development, sensory feedback, and experimental results.
  • Sensory Support: Assist in organizing sensory analysis panels and product testing, collecting and consolidating data for the broader team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Hardware & Quality teams to monitor the stability of products in development, in production, and in the Bevi machine.
  • Ingredient Sourcing: Help identify and source new ingredients, coordinating with vendors to request samples and technical documentation.
  • Specification Drafting: Assist in translating successful prototypes into formal technical specifications for manufacturing partners.
  • Continuous Learning: Design and execute experiments under the guidance of senior scientists to analyze data and make technical recommendations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a lab setting (internship experience in food or beverage development is highly preferred).
  • Technical Foundation: Solid understanding of food chemistry, ingredient functionality, and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting experimental findings and collaborating with a tight-knit team.
  • Detail-Oriented: A high degree of accuracy in measurement and a "keen eye" for documentation and organization.
  • Growth Mindset: A proactive desire to learn the commercialization process and a willingness to take ownership of lab success.
  • Location: Ability to be in the office 4 days per week to manage lab-based tasks.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel (~10%) for vendor visits or production trials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of preservative systems and microbial testing.
  • Familiarity with concentrated beverage products or flavor chemistry.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment (pH meters, refractometers, carbonation tools).
