Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage.Purpose of the RoleWe’re looking for a talented journalist with strong editorial judgment and a keen instinct for storytelling. The ideal candidate will have some experience of working across TV, digital and radio, and the confidence to contribute across platforms. You’ll combine creative thinking with a solid news sense, helping to shape coverage that resonates with global audiences. Good production skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work at pace in a fast-moving newsroom are important.Key Responsibilities and ImpactThe successful candidate will work with the BBC’s Washington News Content team, contributing to high-quality journalism across digital, TV and radio platforms, with a focus on reaching internationally and in the UK.Producing correspondents in the bureau and in the field, helping shape stories for digital, TV and radio output, including video, text and live coverage, and providing other teams with editorial, research and production support where needed.Supporting coverage of the daily news agenda and major planned events and where needed deploying to breaking news stories.Working on the Washington news desk, when required, helping to coordinate output, and ensuring teams in the field and programmes in London are kept up to date as stories develop.Essential CriteriaExperience of working in a news environment, contributing to output across TV, digital and radio from both the field and newsroom.Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced newsroom, thinking quickly and acting resourcefully under pressure while managing multiple demands, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with colleagues during live and breaking news situations.Good editorial judgement and a clear understanding of the news agenda, with the ability to help make complex stories accessible for the audience.An understanding of digital, TV and radio production, including basic package construction, and the ability to recognise the elements of effective and engaging output.A strong desire and aptitude to build on and enhance creative and production skills across platforms, including audio editing, with a focus on evolving storytelling approaches to meet changing audience habits and ensure our journalism reaches audiences wherever they are.Experience of field producing, including during breaking news, is advantageous, along with a willingness to work flexibly, including shifts.
