Job Description:

The Senior Materials Handler is responsible for overseeing warehouse receiving operations and ensuring incoming materials are accurately received, inspected, documented, stored, and maintained within inventory systems. This role serves as a subject matter expert for receiving and inventory control processes while supporting overall warehouse efficiency, inventory accuracy, and supply chain performance.

The Senior Materials Handler works closely with the Shipping and Kitting teams to ensure seamless operations across the warehouse. During periods of downtime, this position will cross-train and assist within Shipping and Kitting functions to support operational continuity and expand cross-departmental expertise.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Warehouse Receiving & Inventory Management

• Oversee daily warehouse receiving operations, ensuring incoming shipments are unloaded, inspected, and processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.

• Verify received materials against purchase orders and shipping documentation; identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies, damages, and inventory variances.

• Maintain accurate inventory records through timely system transactions, cycle counts, inventory audits, and root-cause analysis, implementing corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy.

• Store, label, and organize materials in designated warehouse locations to ensure proper identification, accessibility, and effective space utilization.

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve receiving, inventory control, warehouse organization, and material flow processes to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and support operational goals.

Shipping, Kitting & Cross-Functional Support

• Support and coordinate shipping, receiving, and kitting activities, including machine kitting, Bill of Materials (BOM) verification, and preparation of parts and materials for internal production and customer shipments.

• Cross-train and perform responsibilities within Shipping and Kitting functions to ensure operational continuity during employee absences and periods of increased demand.

• Coordinate high-priority shipments and material movements while collaborating with Procurement, Production, Logistics, and other departments to ensure on-time delivery and seamless workflow.

• Assist sister companies and internal stakeholders with receiving, inventory, and warehouse-related questions, concerns, and best-practice guidance.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Train, mentor, and support team members in receiving, inventory, and warehouse processes; serve as a subject matter expert and resource for problem-solving.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, 7S, supply chain optimization, and warehouse improvement projects.

• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and warehouse performance, and assist in implementing sustainable solutions.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and support warehouse safety programs by ensuring compliance with company policies and safe work practices.

• Conduct and support safety training and maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready warehouse environment.

• Monitor and coordinate maintenance of forklifts and material handling equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain receiving and warehouse areas in a clean, organized, and professional condition.

• Complete special projects, additional assignments, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse operations, receiving, inventory control, or related materials management functions OR

• Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field.

• Experience utilizing ERP, inventory management, or warehouse management systems.

• Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands

The physical requirements of this position include:

• Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday.

• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials.

• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move heavier items with assistance.

• Use of computers and other office equipment, including repetitive hand and finger movements for typing and data entry.

• Operation of warehouse equipment, machinery, and hand tools.

• Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, hearing, and vision.

• Ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors as necessary for inventory and quality-related tasks.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment where employees are regularly exposed to machinery, tools, equipment, and material handling operations.

• PPE is required in designated work areas.

• Noise levels may be moderate to high.

• Employees must follow all company safety policies and procedures.

• Occasional exposure to wet, humid, or chemical-related environments may occur.

• Work involves interaction with production, warehouse, and logistics operations in a fast-paced setting.
