Job description

ABOUT AURELIAN

Aurelian builds AI tools that help 911 centers handle more with less, so telecommunicators can stay focused on what matters most and communities get the response they need.

AVA https://www.aurelian.com/ava is a conversational AI agent that answers non-emergency calls; the agent routes, triages, and resolves the calls without any human intervention. By handling administrative calls like noise complaints, lost dogs, and parking inquiries, AVA eliminates hold times and lets call-takers focus their energy on actual emergencies.

CORA https://www.aurelian.com/cora supports call-takers on the calls that matter most. CORA is an on-screen assistant that delivers real-time SOP checklists, smart reminders, and contextual guidance as an emergency call unfolds, so dispatchers stay calm, consistent, and confident when every second counts. When AVA detects an emergency mid-call, it transfers the caller to a telecommunicator and passes along the caller details, location, incident type, and key statements directly into CORA. The call-taker never starts from scratch.

The problem we're solving is serious. The average emergency communications center is 30% understaffed nationwide. Staffing shortages drive burnout and attrition, which makes the shortage worse. Meanwhile, 60-80% of the calls coming in aren't even emergencies at all. Aurelian addresses both sides of that equation: AVA reduces unnecessary call volume, and CORA makes every emergency call more manageable for the people handling it.

Aurelian is live in centers across the country, answering thousands of non-emergency calls every day, and is backed by New Enterprise Associates https://www.nea.com/blog/aurelian-ai-agents-powering-the-911-call-centers-of-the-future and Y Combinator https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/aurelian. Aurelian is growing rapidly; we are hiring people who want to help scale this work and make a real difference in public safety infrastructure for communities across the country.

As a member of the Public Safety Engagement team at Aurelian, you're the technical authority in the sales cycle for AVA and CORA. You partner with our AEs to elevate every demo, bring instant credibility in front of 911 Directors and IT, and translate complex technology into clear operational value for the people who run emergency communications centers.

  • Own the Technical Demo: Deliver tailored AVA and CORA demos to PSAP leadership, IT, and dispatch staff—going deep on the technology when the room calls for it, and making it simple when it doesn't.
  • Run Technical Discovery: Lead discovery on each opportunity's CAD environment, NG9-1-1 posture, telephony/SIP setup, call volume, and staffing picture—then turn what you learn into a solution and ROI story that resonates.
  • Be the Technical Partner in the Deal: Field tough technical questions, serve as the industry expert in the room, and earn the technical trust that moves a deal forward. You're the AE's right hand from the first demo through close.
  • Get in the Field: Travel up to 60–80% to run demos and meetings alongside our reps, and deliver high-quality virtual demos when you're not on the road.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent Aurelian at public safety conferences, events, webinars, and industry working groups to build credibility and expand our reach.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You're not just a technical resource—you understand the public safety space, speak the language of the people who live in a PSAP every day, and care about solving the operational issues facing 9-1-1 centers. You don't need decades of experience to be great at this. You need real public safety grounding, technical curiosity, and the ability to make complex concepts land for any audience.

There are two ways into this role:

  • ~2–3+ years as a Sales Engineer in the 911 / public safety space, with prior public safety experience behind it, or
  • A strong background inside a dispatch center and ready to step into a technical, customer-facing role. If you've lived the workflows and have the aptitude and presence to learn the sales motion, we want to talk.

What you'll need:

  • Public safety grounding. You know dispatch operations, the workflows, and the language.
  • Real 911/PSAP domain experience. Genuine exposure to dispatch operations—not adjacent govtech. You know the tech, you know the workflows, you know the language.
  • Technical aptitude across the PSAP stack. Working knowledge of CAD, NG9-1-1, telephony/SIP, integrations, and security/CJIS—or the curiosity and aptitude to get fluent fast.
  • The instinct to sell value, not features. You connect what you learn in discovery to ROI, business outcomes, and capacity, not specs.
  • Presence and composure. You're credible and comfortable whether you're in front of a dispatch floor or a room full of stakeholders.
  • Curiosity and coachability. You ask good questions, fit a team selling motion, and you're willing to try new things.
  • Comfort with heavy travel (60-80%) and time on customer and prospect sites.
