Mental Health Therapist Contractor(s)
The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1,300+ students. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology, progressively piloting programs, and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum.
The ADEA is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the position of a contractor, as a Mental Health Therapist, at Father Gamache Memorial School (FGMS) located at Fond Du Lac, Saskatchewan, Father Porte Memorial Dene School (FPMDS) located in Black Lake, Saskatchewan, and Father Megret Elementary & High School (FMES/FMHS) located in Wollaston Lake, Saskatchewan. Our schools provide education programming for Pre-K to Grade 12 with an overall student population of 1300+
OPPORTUNITY:
The Mental Health Therapist will provide mental health services that involves providing direct culturally appropriate clinical counseling to students, intake assessments and the development of treatment plans, provide crisis intervention that addresses issues, and work towards helping each student to reach their fullest potential.
CONTRACT SUMMARY:
Provide individual and group interventions to support and expand the capacity of individuals as well as treat several conditions/issues, such as: depression; anxiety disorders; bipolar disorder; trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder; substance use disorders; grief and loss; suicide ideation; etc.
Work with students to understand their feelings, thinking patterns and their behaviors to build capacity to deal with their emotions and life’s challenges.
Strengthen students’ ability to regulate their emotions & increase their capacity for learning.
Provide classroom presentations, workshops, and training.
Work in collaboration with students, parents/caregivers, teachers, student supports, school administrators, and community resources/supports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW), and/or:
A Counsellor/Psychotherapist in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
An understanding of Denesuline language and culture would be considered an asset.
Willingness to travel for a minimum of 4 days at a time.
