Job Description
Overview Join a leading clinical transfusion and cellular-therapy laboratory supporting diagnostic testing, blood-component manufacturing, and research. This role blends hands-on serologic and molecular testing, inventory and quality management, and technical training in a regulated, team-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing using automated and manual methods, including ABO/Rh typing, direct antiglobulin testing, antibody screening and identification, RBC phenotyping, elutions, crossmatches, and isohemagglutinin titers.
- Execute specialized serologic and molecular procedures for diagnostic and research applications.
- Identify and resolve factors affecting test accuracy (interfering substances, disease states, method limitations); troubleshoot instruments and test methods and document corrective actions.
- Process whole blood into components (e.g., frozen plasma, leukoreduced RBCs, buffy coats), apply pathogen-reduction technologies as appropriate, and ensure accurate labeling per GMP and regulatory requirements.
- Review donor testing results, manage blood inventory, coordinate procurement or import of components, and perform component modifications such as irradiation when indicated.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment; perform complex troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and proficiency testing; identify procedural gaps and recommend/process improvements.
- Create, review, and update standard operating procedures and support process-improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to fellows, visiting scientists, students, and laboratory staff.
- Follow safe work practices, use appropriate PPE, and comply with infection-control and hazardous-material protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
