Job description

Our Legal team works collaboratively across functions to achieve our ambitious mission of fostering effortless teamwork for everyone. Specifically, we’re looking for a detail-oriented, business-minded Product Counsel to join our Legal team in our San Francisco office. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of issues and company departments, including product management, engineering, user experience research, product marketing, product design, and customer success. You will bring a collaborative, thoughtful, and practical mindset to solving problems, reporting directly to Asana’s Head of Litigation, IP, and Product Legal.

This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve

  • Partner directly with Asana’s product and engineering teams on product and feature development and releases, including advising on general compliance issues.

  • Partner directly with Product Marketing and product teams on go-to-market plans and materials.

  • Conduct comprehensive legal reviews of new products, features, and UI/UX flows, particularly around collaboration tools, automated workflows, and enterprise-grade administration features.

  • Focus on outcomes by gaining a deep understanding of one or more product areas, R&D processes, and customer-facing product programs to become a trusted cross-functional partner.

About you

  • Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

  • Holds a JD from an accredited law school and is U.S.-qualified (California bar membership or California registered in-house counsel preferred).

  • Brings 5+ years of combined experience working in-house at a SaaS company as product counsel and/or at a law firm in technology transactions or counseling high-growth SaaS companies on product, intellectual property, and/or strategic partnerships.

  • Shows strong collaboration skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with lawyers and non-lawyers across the company.

  • Acts as a creative problem solver comfortable with assessing risks and making clear decisions.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: artificial intelligence, consumer protection, payments, productivity software, international compliance, or technical integrations/iPaaS.

  • Business and customer-oriented with experience bringing diverse stakeholders to agreement.

  • Possesses excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to assess and clearly communicate risks and tradeoffs to business partners in plain language.

To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $229,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
