Senior Backend Software Engineer - AdTech

We are partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment to fill a Senior Software Engineer (Ad Tech) to join the engineering team focused on building scalable, reliable, and high-performance advertising services in cloud environment for our FAST, and AVOD offerings on Playstation and Bravia platforms.

As an engineer focused on advertising technology platforms, you will have a strong background in advertising technology, including advertising signals and global privacy signals.

This will be a hybrid setup (Onsite - Mondays to Thursdays / Remote - Fridays) and will report directly to Sony regarding the project.

Job Responsibilities:

• Build and support our ads engineering services and infrastructure in cloud environments
• Drive continuous improvements to the reliability, performance, data accuracy, and security of the services
• Solve distributed systems engineering and data problems, utilizing the best tools and technologies
• Develop real-time monitoring and alerting of services and ad signaling flows.
• Extract and aggregate data from a variety of sources into data warehouses
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to ad serving backend systems.
• Collaborate with product, DevOps, and client engineering teams to design scalable microservices architectures
• Integrate with third-party services such as SSAI (server-side ad insertion), Ad Server, SSPs, OpenRTB integrations, Data pipeline and analytics systems

Minimum qualifications:

• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts such as scaling, availability, reliability, latency, API design, caching and design efficient data structures
• 5+ years of experience in building backend services in C#, Golang or similar modern programming languages
• Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Postgres, DynamoDB)
• Strong knowledge of monitoring, observability, and logging tools (e.g. Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, CloudWatch)
• Experience working with Product, QA teams and external Stakeholders
• Experience with cloud-native development (AWS), serverless architecture
• Previous ad-tech experience and strong domain knowledge
• Familiarity with Ads standards and technologies such as VAST, VMAP, SSAI

Ideal qualifications:

• Experience in streaming technologies: Live, AVOD, HLS, DASH, CDN, and playout automation
• Strong background in advertising technology, including ad serving, corresponding ad and privacy signals.
• Familiarity with Video ad servers like Freewheel, Publica, or Springserve
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development using tools such Github Copilot
• Experience with video encoding/transcoding workflows
• Familiarity with SCTE-35, manifest manipulation and stream delivery pipeline

Job Work Set up:

• Hybrid (Office Location: Culver City, CA): Onsite - Mondays to Thursdays / Remote - Fridays
• 40 work hours/week
• Full-Time Position with Benefits - Includes Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage through HMO available after 90 days of employment
