OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Qualify donors and perform all blood collection procedures. Lead day-of-drive teams and perform charge tasks when assigned. Responsible for identifying and addressing site-specific issues (including site maintenance, utility issues, and safety concerns). Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:
- Perform any or all blood collection procedures, including allogeneic, autologous, directed, therapeutic, automated red cell, and mini-mobile and platelet apheresis.
- Ensure the team successfully performs collections that meet patient needs, such as maintaining split rate and right-type mix.
- Perform standard collection tasks such as, drive set up/function checks, donor reaction care, collection set labeling, discontinuing (disengagement), post-collection donor care, and post-collection blood processing.
- Lead day-of-drive teams and perform charge tasks when assigned. May perform competency assessments as necessary or directed.
Standard Schedule: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum one year of healthcare experience (RN/LPN, EMT, or Medical Assistant) or minimum one year of documented satisfactory performance in the previous level within the job family or equivalent experience required.
- Ability to work on a team.
- Customer service skills including effective verbal communication and public relations required.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Applicable local licensure if required by state directives.
- Travel: Limited but may be required.
Physical Requirements:
Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Physical requirements may include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., squat, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required. At the American Red Cross, we conduct many mobile blood drives at businesses, schools, and many other locations. All staff work as a team to set up and tear down the equipment required to conduct a mobile blood drive. This involves pushing carts up to 250 lbs., setting up beds, and handling many totes containing equipment and snacks for the donors.
