Category Manager, Data Center Sourcing & Procurement
Job : | Amazon Data Services, Inc.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, procurement, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure — we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, procurement managers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers — all within an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) works to deliver scalable solutions to source, build, and maintain our socially responsible data center supply chains. We are a team of highly motivated, engaged, and responsive professionals who enable the core sustainable infrastructure of AWS — powering thousands of businesses across more than 190 countries.
The Data Center Sourcing & Procurement (DCSP) team is looking for a results‑oriented, data‑driven Category Manager to own sourcing and supply management for Materials and Long Lead Equipment (LLE) for mechanical and electrical category. You will initially focus on Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) Switchgear and Bus Ducts — high‑complexity electrical distribution systems that are foundational to data center power delivery — with the expectation of expanding ownership across the broader LLE portfolio over time, including other critical electrical and mechanical systems.
In this role, you will manage end‑to‑end sourcing and supply chain for MV/LV Switchgear and Bus Ducts, ensuring these high‑complexity, long‑lead electrical distribution systems are available to support AWS Data Center construction schedules. You will create and implement sourcing strategies for the latest technologies, product innovations, and design developments in the data center space — collaborating with internal business partners and suppliers to drive efficiencies, reduce construction timelines, manage risk, and optimize costs for Amazon.
Your primary responsibility is to maintain unconstrained supply at AMER scale, working closely with internal customers — including Design Engineering, Planning & Delivery, and DCSP teams — to align demand signals with supplier capacity and drive supply strategies that deliver continuity of supply.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage end‑to‑end sourcing and supply chain strategies for MV/LV Switchgear and Bus Ducts at the AMER regional level, including competitive bidding, negotiation, and contract management.
- Identify and implement New Product Introduction (NPI) opportunities — modularization, and value‑engineering initiatives — managing supply chain from concept development through launch; lead feasibility analysis and cost deep dives with technical acumen to evaluate design specifications.
- Understand demand inputs and align supplier capacity to support unconstrained growth at AWS scale across both short‑term and long‑term horizons, including supplier capacity modeling and lead time management.
- Develop mechanisms and metrics to hold suppliers accountable for performance, quality, on‑time delivery, and material allocation based on demand priority.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to drive innovation through the supply chain, influence industry practices, and identify opportunities for sustainable, scalable competitive advantage in your category.
- Drive large‑scale, cross‑functional supply chain and procurement improvement projects with measurable outcomes; manage projects against plans and objectives to meet commitments and goals.
- Analyze data and market trends to identify risks,…
