About the Position
The Senior Metallurgist is responsible for the management of projects at all levels, and the supervision of Junior and Project Metallurgists in the department.
Specific Responsibilities
Manage projects, which include the following activities:
Bid preparation and bid review at all levels;
Direct client interaction and communication;
Complete metallurgical balances
Communicate data to clients, through e-mails or written reports, or by leading project review meetings and presentations with clients;
Analyze data and take lead in determining direction of the testing program based upon the results;
Upon completion of the test program, analyze and present the data in a format suitable for using in the project final report;
Write final technical reports for projects under management and projects managed by others if needed using standardized formats;
Conducting, supervising and reporting bench scale and pilot plant test work for complex metallurgy projects;
Direct, supervise, and, when necessary, conduct test work in laboratory;
Collaborate with senior project members and the Technical Services Manager regarding ongoing test programmes;
Providing a mentoring role for other technical staff;
Direct Junior and Project Metallurgists, and delegate work effectively;
Participate in safety audits with the site safety officer as required;
Represent ALS Metallurgy at trade shows, conferences, mining shows, etc. as required; these events may occur outside regular office hours;
Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability;
Advanced communication and technical report writing skills;
Ability to work to deadlines;
Organized and detail-oriented individual;
Highly motivated, strong sense of responsibility and excellent work ethic;
Able to work independently or as part of a team;
Good interpersonal skills;
Proven troubleshooting and technical support skills;
Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
Required Qualifications
Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical or Mineral Processing degree (or equivalent) required;
5 to 8 years of laboratory and operations experience in process plants and testwork services;
P.Eng. required;
Ability to lead a team of metallurgists.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift filled 20 litre containers (45 lb);
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
Ability to stand for a full shift;
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
Please note that ALS operates week days; although attendance at trade shows or conferences may require weekend duties.

An estimated annual salary of $95,000 - $105,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
