Alexandria Country Day School (ACDS) is a co-educational, independent school for students from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Summary
Alexandria Country Day School is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and collaborative candidate to serve as a full-time, long-term substitute learning specialist from late August 2026 through mid-December 2026. This position will support grades third through fifth.
The learning specialist will work collaboratively with the Assistant Head of School and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, as well as three other learning specialists, to support students.
Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, UFLI, Fundations, and Singapore Math is beneficial. The School seeks candidates who are skilled, creative, collaborative, and adept at supporting learners in the classroom. A good sense of humor, a positive outlook, strong communication skills, and an appreciation of the unique qualities of the age group are essential.
Responsibilities
- Implement intervention lesson plans provided by the learning specialist, and design ongoing small group lessons to respond to student needs.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and families regarding student progress and needs.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student needs.
- Provide feedback on student performance to help inform future instruction.
- Collaborate with faculty to support the overall educational goals of the school.
- Participate in school events and activities as needed.
- Uphold the values and mission of Alexandria Country Day School.
Qualifications
- Masters degree in special education or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in an elementary classroom setting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to adapt lessons for varying student needs.
- Familiarity with Alexandria Country Day School curricular programs is beneficial.
- Commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for all students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Pay: $150.00 - $250.00 per day
