Job Description
Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will provide support at the Cross Cancer Institute laboratory by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. The primary responsibilities of the Laboratory Assistant I includes collection of blood specimens from cancer care patients, performing ECGs, handling transport and issuance of blood products, and specimen processing and transport. The Cross Cancer Institute laboratory has a robust Outpatient Collection Department and also provides service to the Inpatient Unit and various Ambulatory Clinics.
Description
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications (1300 Character Limit)
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications (1500 Character Limit)
Must have a recent demonstrated experience - practicum or worked experience - with performing phlebotomy and ECGs within the last year (12 months).
Preferred Qualifications (500 Character Limit)
Demonstrated experience with EPIC Beaker - practicum or worked experience - within the last year is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with collecting research kits and performing collections for clinical trials is preferred. Worked experience with SPECTRE is an asset. Practicum or worked experience with Wellsky and TIMS is recommended. Familiarity with Cross Cancer Institute workflow is beneficial.
