Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care – North program. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family-centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of AKC-N. You will be encouraged and expected to work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. This position is based in the Hemodialysis unit at Grey Nuns Community Hospital. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Classification: LPN - Renal Dialysis Union: AUPE AUX Unit and Program: Hemodialysis, Alberta Kidney Care North Primary Location: Grey Nuns Community Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 0.50 Posting End Date: 24-JUL-2026 Employee Class: Regular Part Time Date Available: 07-SEP-2026 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 20 Shifts per cycle: 50 Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $33.53 Maximum Salary: $43.85 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate effective time-management and organizational skills. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities required. Must have Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Proof of successful completion of the CLPNA Administering Blood or Blood Products module is required if you were a graduate prior to June 2022. Basic computer skills required. Candidates must complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4-week full-time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the LPN will be able to proceed to the unit-specific orientation – 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 1-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton zone employees and via zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required (found in the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses – 5th Edition on the CLPNA website).

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience. Recent acute and chronic hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
