We have an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Renal Dialysis within the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) program. A Designated Float Licensed Practical Nurse – Renal Dialysis, supports the staffing needs of Alberta Kidney Care – North for vacant shifts due to planned or unplanned staff absences. You will support the relief staffing needs at 3 sites. Flexibility to meet the ever-changing relief needs of the program, is essential in this position. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN – Renal Dialysis provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of AKC-N. You will be encouraged and expected to work at your full scope of practice and to perform a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of recent (within the last 2 years) medical-surgical nursing experience is required. Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration courses are required. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required. These can be found in the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses – 5th Edition on the CLPNA website. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds (18kg). Basic computer skills are required. The AKC-N program requires candidates to complete/pass hemodialysis training. Hemodialysis training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability. Hemodialysis orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks of on-unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with current (within 12 months) hemodialysis or nephrology experience.
