Salary Range: T3, Level 5, $102,200 - $120,000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Specialist, Regulatory Effectiveness & Sustainment - Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Specialist, Regulatory Effectiveness & Sustainment plays a key role in advancing the Alberta Energy Regulator's (AER) model for risk-informed decisions, the Regulatory Decision Framework (RDF). This role supports the delivery of enterprise initiatives that implement and sustain the RDF, enabling riskinformed, consistent, and defensible regulatory decisionmaking across the full lifecycle of energy and mineral resource development in Alberta.
As part of the Regulatory Effectiveness & Sustainment team, you will work across the organization to address complex, crossfunctional regulatory challenges and deliver practical, highimpact solutions aligned with the RDF.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Support the delivery of enterprise initiatives that advance the implementation and stewardship of the RDF.
- Analyze trends, gaps, and inconsistencies to drive continuous improvement in regulatory processes and decision-making.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of processes, tools, and guidance that enable effective, riskinformed decisions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define issues, assess impacts, and implement solutions.
- Support change management and sustainment through training, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.
- Prepare analysis, briefings, and recommendations to inform decision-making and planning.
What we're looking for in you:
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, environmental science, engineering, economics, natural resources, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in energy or mineral resources regulation, operations, or compliance.
- Knowledge of the AER's mandate, legislation, and regulatory framework, with the ability to apply critical thinking in complex environments.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts.
- Proven ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and deliver in complex, enterprise environments.
- Change management and/or project management training or certification is considered an asset.
