Job Description

AK Aerospace Technology Corp. is seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to participate in Instrument integration, test and science data verification for a mission at the NASA/GSFC, Greenbelt MD location. Specific duties for this position include the following:

Provide Mission and Instrument systems engineering support including environmental test support and test plan developments across multiple subsystems. Including requirement and resource allocation verifications. Perform investigation, troubleshooting and analysis in support of engineering and flight instruments and spacecraft subsystems.

Job Description

  • Participate and lead in instrument environmental tests (EMI/EMC, thermal vacuum, and vibration).
  • Technical oversight and leadership of the optical module (OM) which includes Optics, Opto-Mech, Mechanism subsystems, and spacecraft interfaces.
  • Work with the instrument scientists and subsystems leads in verifying the performance/interface requirements and allocation compliance.
  • Oversight of technical allocation and resource tracking (mass, power, pointing)
  • System level limited and comprehensive test planning and execution
  • Perform analysis/test of such systems as optical camera system, command and data handling, thermal control, power and mechanism control system.
  • Review and analysis of instrument/subsystem performance test data as applied to level 2 and level 3 requirements.
  • Support/lead instrument/subsystem requirement verification and validation (V and V).
  • Perform instrument electrical/grounding analysis and develop the applicable documentations.
  • Support investigation of instrument/subsystem anomalies during system level integration and test, and work with other team members to resolve/disposition anomalies.
  • Environmental test matrix management.
  • Revise requirements, analysis, specifications, interface control documents (ICD), test plans as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field with 5-10 years relevant experience in related field and skills and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong background in spacecraft/instrument electrical, analog/digital, power, and ground.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft/instrument level EMI/EMC, vibration, and thermal vacuum testing.
  • Experience in instrument camera systems with CCD or IR detectors is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NASA systems development, configuration management, and quality control processes and procedures.
  • Experience in generating requirements, writing specifications, creating test plans.
  • Preparing and presenting material for multi-disciplined design reviews.
  • Experience with NASA Risk Management guidelines and processes.
  • NASA or Aerospace industry experience is a plus.
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills

Must be a US citizen or a US Permanent Residence with ability to pass a Government background investigation.
