About Adaptivities
Adaptivities is a DMV-based organization providing structured social programming, life skills, and adaptive arts for neurodiverse youth and young adults. Our sARTdays Art Club meets the first Saturday of each month and offers a creative, affirming space where participants explore artistic expression alongside peers in a structured group setting.
Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Special Education Art Teacher to facilitate our monthly sARTdays Art Club sessions for participants ages 14 and up. All art projects, themes, and supply lists are planned and provided in advance — your focus is on delivering an engaging, accessible, and structured creative experience for neurodiverse learners.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate monthly art sessions using provided project plans, themes, and supply lists
- Adapt instruction and materials to meet the sensory, communication, and learning needs of neurodiverse participants
- Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive group environment
- Collaborate with the Adaptivities program team to ensure session continuity
- Document participant engagement and session observations as needed
- Manage pacing, transitions, and group dynamics throughout each session
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Art Education, or a related field (required)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (required)
- Experience working with neurodiverse individuals (autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, etc.)
- Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or similar inclusive instructional frameworks
- Ability to adapt art projects for varying skill levels and support needs
- Strong group management skills in an inclusive setting
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Floortime/DIR, ABA, or other evidence-based approaches
- Background in visual arts, mixed media, or therapeutic art practices
- Prior experience in community-based or nonprofit settings
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
