Job description
Accenture Federal Services is seeking a Database Engineer with Accumulo experience to join our team and support our client in San Antonio, TX. You will be a hands-on Database Engineer/Administrator specializing in Apache Accumulo within a distributed big data ecosystem. This role is critical to the sustainment, performance, security, and modernization of the customer's data platform.
We are looking for a specialist fluent in Accumulo internals, HDFS, Zookeeper, YARN, and secure, large scale distributed data environments.
What you'll do:
Accumulo Administration & Engineering
- Manage, configure, and optimize Accumulo clusters, including tservers, master, monitor, and garbage collector services.
- Perform and tune Accumulo compactions, flush operations, and table‑level maintenance routines.
- Engineer, configure, and validate Accumulo tables, iterators, splits, security labels, and performance settings (tablet distribution, bloom filters, tserver configurations).
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Accumulo server errors, iterator issues, classloader problems, and runtime exceptions.
Distributed System Architecture
- Configure and optimize the supporting Hadoop ecosystem, including HDFS, Zookeeper, and YARN, ensuring tightly paired but properly decoupled management where feasible.
- Evaluate and tune distributed file system architecture for enterprise‑scale ingestion, analytics, and storage workloads.
Security & Cell‑Level Access Control
- Implement and maintain Accumulo’s cell‑level security and read‑path enforcement (Standard Read vs. Full Access modes).
- Ensure strict compliance with CUI, TS/SCI, and cross‑domain security requirements for data at rest and in motion.
Backup, Recovery, and Sustainment
- Manage Accumulo‑level and HDFS‑level backup processes, automated backup directories, and restore procedures.
- Work with multi‑environment (NIPR/SIPR/JWICS) deployments following enterprise sustainment and modernization expectations.
Operational Diagnostics & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze Accumulo logs and metrics to troubleshoot ingest failures, iterator misconfigurations, ZK/YARN dependencies, and scaling constraints.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on evaluating modernization options and improving architectural resilience.
What you’ll need:
- 5 years of experience working with distributed data systems and/or large-scale storage technologies
- Experience with Accumulo and/or Hadoop and/or Zookeeper
- DoD 8140 compliance (e.g. Security+, CISSP, CASP, etc.) or ability to obtain within 6 months
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with distributed systems architecture, data migration, and consolidation projects
- Understanding of platform reliability and operational best practices
Clearance:
Must have an active TS/SCI level clearance
