Job Description

We are Able, a company building products through a portfolio model, and we are looking to grow our team with a Staff Full-Stack JavaScript Engineer.

Do you love exploring and trying out new tools? Researching how to push the limits of your frameworks and libraries? Would you love to follow our thesis of working in products among different industries that seek to make a positive impact on our society?

If so, Able may be the place you’ve been waiting for. We are a passionate and good-willed team building creative and innovative projects and we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing

We are seeking someone who really enjoys working in Node.js and TypeScript ecosystems, and who understands their strengths, but also their weaknesses. Someone who is particularly intrigued by the convergence of software engineering and data processing, understanding the value of modern tools while looking past the hype to arrive at grounded insights.

In short, someone who likes:

  • Building scalable services and pipelines: Designing and implementing robust backend architectures using Node.js and TypeScript that will run in scalable environments (Serverless, Microservices, or Containerized).
  • Bridging Software, Data, and AI: Researching the state of the art to inform which libraries, frameworks, and tools to add to our technical stacks.
  • Engineering Excellence: Employing good practices and testing to guide their codebase design, ensuring data integrity and code organization.
  • Pragmatism: Knowing when to take shortcuts and when to invest in reliability. Not all pipelines are created equally!
  • Reliability: Ensuring any application or data stream they build is secure, robust, scalable, and maintainable.

What we’re looking for

We want to work with people who have a passion for collaborating with their teams, building software while nurturing inclusive and respectful relationships with their coworkers. With the ones that are open about their shortcomings and what they do not know now, but remain eager to keep on growing and closing those gaps.

Ideally, they would also have:

  • Node.js & TypeScript Mastery (Must Have): 5+ years of professional experience building backend systems with Node.js and TypeScript. You should be comfortable with asynchronous programming, event loops, and strict type safety.
  • Database Skills: A deep understanding of database design, complex SQL querying, and data modeling with stores like PostgreSQL and Redis.
  • AI & ML Exposure: Experience with Machine Learning workflows. You don't need to be a data scientist, but you should understand the ML lifecycle (training vs. inference), feature engineering, and how to integrate models into backend services.
  • Performance Optimization: Experience monitoring and optimizing backend application performance, query latency, and pipeline efficiency.
  • Architectural Knowledge: Strong understanding of Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, or Distributed Systems.
  • Data Engineering Experience (Nice to Have): Proven expertise in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, and managing data transformations with DBT.

This position is 100% remote. We are looking for talent who can commit to at least 5 hours of overlap with our main team’s office working hours. (mostly 9 am to 6 pm New York Time)

Don’t think you are quite there, yet? That’s fine too. Let’s talk and share your story with us!
