Job description
This is a remote position with up to 50% domestic travel required. Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States.
Headquartered in the Chicagoland Area, AbbVie is a global research-based biopharmaceutical company formed in 2013. The Company's mission is to create an innovation-driven, patient-focused specialty biopharmaceutical company capable of achieving sustainable top-tier performance through outstanding execution and a consistent stream of innovative new medicines. With market leadership in Immunology, Oncology, Migraine, Aesthetics, and Eye Care, AbbVie employs approximately 55,000 colleagues worldwide and markets medicines in more than 175 countries.
AbbVie’s U.S. Market Access organization partners with payers at the state, regional, and national levels to support affordable patient access across AbbVie’s portfolio. In a complex and evolving health care environment, the organization is consistently recognized by external stakeholders as a top partner of choice.
Within Market Access, the Corporate Account Team manages AbbVie’s relationships with large U.S. national payers. Organized around the three large PBM-owned GPOs (Ascent-Cigna, Zinc-CVS, Emisar-UnitedHealth Group), the team is led by Corporate Account Leaders (CALs) who guide experienced Account Executives in developing strategies to secure and maintain profitable access for AbbVie’s portfolio while strengthening relationships with AbbVie’s largest payer customers, who manage reimbursement for more than 80% of U.S. sales.
CALs set the strategic direction for their groups, planning 12–24 months ahead and providing insights and options to internal stakeholders to support payer success. They also lead internal processes that strengthen U.S. payer relationships while developing team members’ capabilities, customer relationships, and connectivity across U.S. Market Access.
This critical role requires an established leader with deep Market Access, pharmaceutical, and health care experience who embodies U.S. Market Access’ Ambitious Cultural Vision and AbbVie Ways We Work.
Major Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
- Deliver AbbVie and Brand Team access, reimbursement, and financial objectives across a large portfolio, supporting profitable gross-to-net performance and efficient patient and provider access.
- Develop and lead contracting strategies across commercial, government, and Medicare Part D books of business, ensuring alignment with AbbVie objectives, policies, and long-range brand plans.
- Anticipate and address market, regulatory, and payer landscape challenges—including New Delinking and associated Service Fee models, 340B, IRA, pricing, invoicing, and contract implications—to protect and advance access strategies.
- Represent payer insights and strategic recommendations to executive management, including decision-making drivers, growth opportunities, customer dynamics, and gross-to-net implications.
- Strengthen strategic relationships with critical payer customers by building durable partnerships across levels and functions.
- Lead, coach, and develop Account Executives and extended payer team members to strengthen negotiation, analytical, strategic, and customer relationship capabilities.
- Integrate cross-functional partners across Market Access, Legal, Finance, Compliance, Medical, Supply Chain, Payer Strategy, Corporate Accounts, Regional Accounts, and sales teams to align resources and execution.
- Provide timely insights, analyses, options, and financial planning input to internal stakeholders while helping guide internal deliberation and approval processes.
- Ensure compliant collaboration with medical personnel and support broader Market Access and AbbVie priorities as needed.
- 15+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals, health care, Market Access, payer strategy, or related areas.
- Proven leadership and management capability, including executive presence and the ability to recruit, develop, and work effectively with diverse teams, customers, and stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the confidence and agility to influence internal and external stakeholders and appropriately challenge assumptions.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate reimbursement, customer, market, or regulatory changes and develop timely solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical sales and marketing laws, rules, and regulations, with strong understanding of supply chain and distribution dynamics.
- Strong finance, contracting, analytical, and strategic planning aptitude.
- BA or BS required; advanced degree or relevant advanced training preferred.
- Ability to travel extensively and work long, unpredictable hours as needed.
