THE EMPLOYER

Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation is a registered charity that raises funds for Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, to deliver culture- and language-appropriate senior care in the Greater Toronto Area. For more information about the Foundation, please visit yeehong.com/foundation.

THE POSITION The Foundation seeks outgoing and energetic candidates to fill two Development Officer - Fundraising (DOF) positions for 16 weeks each, starting May 2026. The Government of Canada has funded these jobs through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

The DOF will assist Foundation staff in tasks and responsibilities primarily related to Yee Hong's fundraising activities, including but not limited to:

  • event planning, management and coordination;
  • digital and social marketing activities;
  • social media and website management;
  • Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation;
  • media relationship management;
  • press release writing;
  • photography and videography;
  • graphic design;
  • fundraising research and development;
  • donor/sponsor/stakeholder relationship management; and
  • other operational and/or administrative tasks.

PROFESSIONALISM The DOF will be required to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external parties to the Foundation, including but not limited to Chinese and English language media; donors and sponsors; volunteers and other supporters; residents and other clients; etc.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITY The DOF will be required to work on a computer for most tasks and responsibilities, either on their own device or one supplied by the Foundation. In addition, the DOF may also be given tasks that require a smartphone or digital camera.

LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY The DOF will be required to perform various work tasks with an increasing level of responsibility. If any skill is deficient, the DOF will be guided and instructed in the expected manner.

SUPERVISION AND MENTORSHIP

Successful applicants will be supervised daily by a senior staff member. The DOF will be mentored in skill development related to fundraising, marketing, communications and public relations, through hands-on training and guided instruction by the Foundation's Development Team staff.

REMUNERATION AND LOCATION

Each DOF position will pay $17.60 per hour for a total of 560 hours (equivalent to 16 weeks of full-time work based on 35 hours per week). Occasional weekend or weeknight work may be required. The positions will be primarily based at the Yee Hong Foundation office in Scarborough, ON.

THE APPLICANT

As required by the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants will be considered only if she/he meets ALL of the following criteria:

  • is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • is legally entitled to work in Ontario and has a valid Social Insurance Number.

Please note: International students and other temporary residents are NOT eligible and will NOT be considered.

Previous employment or volunteer experience in fundraising, content creation, graphic design, event management, marketing or communications is an asset.

Participants with academic experience in the fields of Marketing; Digital Media; Advertising; Communications; Event Management; or Special Events, will be best suited for the DOF position and gain essential skills and experience required to succeed in the communications field.

Applicants must be familiar with using computer productivity apps such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google Drive, Docs and Sheets. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva, or similar is a plus.

Applicants must be capable of working in a predominantly English-speaking environment. Priority consideration will be given to applicants with proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin Chinese as well.
