Systems Design Specialist

This role plays a critical function in bridging Sales, Engineering, and Operations by designing accurate, standards-based, and executable security solutions for our clients.
Position Overview
The Systems Design Specialist provides technical leadership and design expertise during both pre-sales and post-sales phases. This role requires strong problem-solving capabilities, advanced use of technical software tools, and deep familiarity with electronic security systems and IT network infrastructure.
Success in this position requires integrity, accountability, and a drive to deliver high-quality results.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
Pre-Sales Support
- Collaborate with Sales to develop concept designs aligned with client requirements.
- Approach system design from multiple stakeholder perspectives (client, technician, sales, project management, etc.).
- Apply industry best practices and product expertise to ensure design accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct site visits as required to validate requirements and assess infrastructure.
- Select appropriate materials and equipment; evaluate labour requirements and determine project costs (including travel, rentals, accommodations, etc.).
- Utilize technology to develop professional documentation including detailed system drawings (Visio), costing and material analysis (Excel/ERP Software), and technical design documentation.
- Research and identify new product solutions in collaboration with Sales Managers, distributors, and vendors.
- Work effectively within tight deadlines and evolving timelines.
Post-Sales Support
- Review jobs as sold to ensure alignment between proposed and engineered solutions.
- Develop detailed floor plans and scopes of work in accordance with company Engineering Standards.
- Create device schedules and complete parts reconciliation.
- Document complete system configurations including programming requirements, wiring requirements, and termination sequences.
- Proactively communicate scope changes and clearly articulate impacts to cost, schedule, and system design.
- Participate in pre-job meetings as required to support smooth project execution.
Technical & Operational Excellence
- Master industry tools, platforms, and fundamentals including Bosch, DSC, CCTV systems, access control platforms, Visio, Excel, electrical theory, and IT network infrastructure.
- Maintain current knowledge of market trends and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of installation and engineering standards.

Qualifications
- Relevant industry experience in CCTV systems, intrusion systems, access control systems, and IT network infrastructure and related peripherals.
- Strong understanding of electronic security systems and circuitry.
- Ability to translate conceptual information into detailed drawings and schematics.
- Technical training in electronics or electrical disciplines (formal education considered an asset).
- Strong decision-making and organizational skills.
This a full-time, permanent position with a very attractive compensation package including benefits, pension matching, and other employee incentives. Our office is located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and our hours of business are Monday to Friday between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
