Job Title: Senior Compensation SpecialistLocation: Remote (U.S. - Sit Anywhere)

Employment Type: Contract

Compensation: $45 - $55 per hour

Schedule: Flexible;primarily aligned to Central Time Zone

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Senior Compensation Specialist to play a key role in building and shaping compensation programs within a fast-scaling environment. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role focused on developing job architecture, salary structures, and compensation strategy from the ground up.

This position is best suited for a professional who thrives in ambiguity, takes initiative, and brings a strong point of view. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, driving projects forward and influencing compensation decisions across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of job architecture, including job families, levels, titles, and pay bands
  • Design and implement scalable compensation programs, including salary structures and internal pricing strategies
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on market benchmarking and compensation strategy, providing data-driven recommendations
  • Evaluate compensation data to identify and address equity, compression, and competitiveness gaps
  • Support and guide compensation planning cycles, including merit increases and adjustments
  • Partner with HR, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and business leaders to influence offer strategy and compensation decisions
  • Develop reporting, dashboards, and models to support executive-level insights and decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state compensation regulations and pay transparency requirements
  • Create and deliver tools, frameworks, and guidance to support leaders in making informed compensation decisions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, Statistics, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in compensation, total rewards, or HR analytics
  • Proven success building compensation programs and job architecture from scratch
  • Deep expertise in compensation benchmarking, job matching, and market pricing
  • Experience supporting a multi-state workforce with varying compensation regulations
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data modeling and scenario analysis
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into strategic insights
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Ability to operate independently and drive initiatives in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and managing incentive or sales compensation plans
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (UKG or similar)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • CCP certification (or in progress)
