Reporting to : Production Manager

Location : Kings Wood Products Inc. – Paris, ON

Working Schedule : Mon-Thurs (onsite) 3pm to 2:30am + overtime as required

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor (Night Shift) is responsible for overseeing all nightly production operations across the pallet shop, custom shop, and cutting shop at Kings Wood Products Inc., a subsidiary of Weston Forest. This role ensures that night shift activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production goals, quality standards, and customer delivery commitments.

As the primary leadership presence on the floor during night shift hours, this role is accountable for employee management, production continuity, quality control, and the smooth handoff of operations between shifts. The ideal candidate is a strong, independent leader who is safety-focused, organized, and able to make sound decisions with minimal oversight while upholding Weston Forest's standards of operational excellence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee Management

  • Lead and supervise all night shift production staff, operators, and support employees.
  • Enforce PPE usage and safety compliance requirements at all times.
  • Address employee concerns promptly and escalate to the Operations Supervisor or Plant Manager when needed.
  • Provide in-shift coaching, performance feedback, and development support.
  • Manage conflict professionally; mentor employees for future Lead Hand or supervisory roles.
  • Ensure all employee training and certifications (e.g., forklift, WHMIS) are current and documented.
  • Review and approve employee timesheets accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage and communicate time-off requests, shift changes, and scheduling adjustments in accordance with company policy; escalate conflicts or coverage issues to the Operations Supervisor as needed.

Production Oversight

  • Execute nightly production plans and adjust workflow to meet delivery schedules.
  • Monitor key production KPIs including output, downtime, yield, and waste.
  • Document downtime occurrences and support root cause investigations.
  • Complete thorough end-of-shift reports detailing output, staffing, incidents, and outstanding items.

Shift Handover & Communication

  • Conduct clear and complete shift handovers with outgoing and incoming supervisors.
  • Communicate priorities, in-progress work, equipment status, and unresolved issues in writing.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and ensure all documentation is completed before end of shift.

Quality Control

  • Ensure compliance with ISO requirements and customer specifications on all night shift production.
  • Approve first-piece inspections and review finished goods for quality.
  • Monitor product consistency, including proper sizing, banding, and labeling.
  • Support corrective actions and quality improvement initiatives in partnership with QA and management.

Health & Safety

  • Maintain compliance with OHSA, WSIB, and Ministry of Labour requirements throughout each shift.
  • Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings at the start of each shift; enforce site-wide safety culture.
  • Conduct accident investigations, incident reports, and corrective action follow-ups.
  • Coordinate emergency response during night shift in the absence of senior management.
  • Track and report safety metrics including near-misses, incidents, and corrective actions.

Housekeeping & Equipment

  • Maintain clean and safe shop conditions throughout the shift, ensuring the workspace is free of debris and hazards.
  • Conduct regular checks on material-handling equipment — machines, tools, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
  • Promote 5S and continuous improvement practices across all work areas.

Shipping & Logistics

  • Ensure any night shift outbound loads are loaded with correct product and accurate documentation.
  • Coordinate with shipping staff to resolve issues or escalate delays as needed.

Continuous Improvement & Sustainability

  • Participate in Kaizen, 5S, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and workflow.
  • Support waste reduction, recycling, and environmentally sustainable practices.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College/technical diploma in Manufacturing, Wood Products, or Industrial Supervision is an asset.
  • Supervisory/leadership training or Health & Safety certification is an asset.
  • Valid forklift license, or ability to obtain certification, is required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years in a manufacturing, wood products, or industrial environment.
  • Prior supervisory or lead hand experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working night shift or off-hours operations is an asset.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and quality inspection is an asset.

Technical Proficiency

  • Strong knowledge of woodworking machinery and pallet/cutting processes.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • ERP or production scheduling software considered an asset (training provided).
